What: Pamella Roland fall runway show.
Where: Pier 59 during New York Fashion Week.
The look: Known for creating attractive ladylike styles for her well-heeled clientele, Roland stepped out of her comfort zone with an edgy collection inspired by the "futuristic skyline of Tokyo." The first look, a metallic fringe dress with above-the-thigh suede boots certainly has a Blade Runner vibe while a clingy white jersey dress with silver sequined shoulders and long sleeves evokes Ex Machina-like dreams.
Evening wear isn't quite so futuristic, although a long white skirt with see-through blouse of shiny lattice beadwork and a red-and-black sequined gown with sheer skirt are sure to draw second glances.
Less out-there but still interesting are jewel-tone gowns with a splash of sequins, while the closing look —an unadorned creme-colored gown with matching long cape — proves that sometimes a simple statement can make the most impact.
